Lesson/Instructional Objective(s)
Students will create a butterfly work of art including the 5 major features/body parts of a butterfly.
Language Objectives
Students will write a story about their butterfly, containing at least 5 sentences. Students will orally present their story and artwork to the class.

Procedures
1. Explain to students that today we will be constructing an illustration of a butterfly with at least 4 major body parts as well as writing a short 5 sentence story about their illustration. The objective will be clearly stated and written on the board for students to refer back to. Take students to the Art room; give them each a piece of construction paper and a set of pencils and paint.
2. Explain to the students that they will need to draw all the main body parts of the butterfly including the head, body, wings, antenna and eyes in their project.
3. Draw a simple butterfly on the board for the students to use as a visual while sketching their own butterfly with a pencil. After they draw out their butterfly have them paint it.
4. After students illustrate and label their butterflies, they will need to write a 5 sentence short story. After writing their stories, the students will share their stories with the class along with their artwork.
Assessment of Learning Outcomes/Objectives
Students will create a butterfly work of art. They will be assessed on their ability to identify and include all major features of a butterfly: the head, body, eyes, wings and antenna in their art project.
Closure
Hang up their art work in the classroom and have the students walk around to admire other’s work, have them each find one classmate to compliment on something particular they liked about their butterfly work of art.
Accommodations and Modifications for ELLs
Give students directions in both English and their native langauage(written and orally).
Accommodations and Modifications for ESE
Give them cutouts of butterfly wings, body, head and antenna and have the student glue the pieces where they belong onto construction paper to make a butterfly. Then have them paint it.
